About Us

The Stoakes family have been farming at Harlesford farm, a small (100ha) farm, in Oxfordshire since the turn of the 20th Century.

The farm is run by Colin, Sheila and Rachel Stoakes. Colin has lived at Harlesford farm all his life (nearly 60 years!) and is the 3rd generation of the Stoakes family to farm the land. Colin is locally renowned for rearing excellent quality beef and lamb, winning many prizes at local stock shows.

Animal welfare and environmental considerations have always been a high priority for the business.

In 2001 the family decided to begin selling their beef and lamb direct to people locally in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire because it was felt important to be able to offer a high quality product that is reasonably priced, low in food miles and with the convenience of local delivery.

On returning from studying at Harper Adams Agricultural College in 2007 Rachel joined the business and the decision was made to build an on-farm cutting room to develop the local direct beef and lamb sales. The on-site cutting room allows greater flexibility and control over product quality. This also significantly reduces food miles.

Rachel the 4th generation of the Stoakes family to farm at Harlesford has been trained in butchery by retired master butcher Patrick who takes great pride in passing on his wealth of knowledge. Rachel is also the friendly face you will find selling Harlesford farm beef and lamb at Farmers’ Markets and is always willing to answer any questions you may have.
